Nandi is the main vehicle of Lord Shiva and Nandi is held in high esteem by the Hindus. In every temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, we can see a place being kept reserved for the Nandi. In this beautiful figure, Nandi is seated and her body is nicely carved out of brass. Nandi is the gate keeper to Lord Shiva and Parvati. He is the chief guru of eighteen masters (18 siddhas) including Patanjali and Thirumular. Temples venerating Shiva display stone images of a seated Nandi, generally facing the main shrine. There are also a number of temples dedicated solely to Nandi.
